I love the book of Jonah. It demonstrates God's love for not only his chosen people but all people. When the Ninevites repented from their wicked ways, God was pleased and did not bring judgement upon them.
Before this took place though, we read the account of Jonah ending up inside the whale for three days. And before you dismiss this story as mere fiction, you have to go the words of Jesus Himself.
"For as Jonah was for three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Matt 12:40
If Jesus states it to be fact, you can be certain that it is. Jesus is God, and God cannot lie.
